Rockville, Maryland — Mission Belonging is honored to announce that Jillian Danback‑McGhan, a distinguished writer, Navy veteran, and respected consultant in organizational performance, has joined its Board of Directors. Jillian’s career spans military service, global organizational advising, and a vibrant literary practice—a combination that reflects her deep commitment to leadership, creativity, and community connection.
Jillian served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy, deploying to South America, Africa, and the Middle East. After transitioning from active duty, she built a consulting career partnering with global organizations across multiple industries, bringing a depth of experience in performance management and executive team development. Her work bridges strategic insight with a grounded understanding of leadership.
Seema Reza, CEO and Board Chair, said of Jillian:“I first encountered Jillian through her singular literary voice. In the years since, she has become a trusted thought partner and advisor to Mission Belonging, and we’re delighted that she’s officially joined the organization to help steer us in this next chapter.”
Jillian is the author of Midwatch (Split/Lip Press, 2024), a short story collection. Her fiction and essays have appeared in numerous literary journals and have earned honors from Line of Advance and Missouri Humanities. She holds degrees from Georgetown University, Cambridge University, and the United States Naval Academy, and lives with her family in Annapolis, Maryland and Indian Harbor Beach, Florida.
Reflecting on her new role, Jillian shared:“It has been an absolute privilege to take part in workshops and events with Mission Belonging and bear witness to the transformative power of art and community over the last few years. In our current age of divisiveness and dissociation, forging meaningful connections between communities is more important than ever. As a military veteran and a writer, I am honored to serve on the board and support Mission Belonging in their enriching, life affirming work.”
