Creative writing is a tool for knowing yourself, understanding the world, and connecting with other people. Led by author Seema Reza and accomplished guest writers—including poets, memoirists, novelists, and storytellers—these generative community workshops follow the model developed by Community Building Art Works (CBAW) over the course of a decade of bringing people together in military and hospital settings. Each workshop is designed to help participants put their personal stories on paper in a supportive environment.
Whether you’re just starting out or have been writing for years, you are welcome; no experience is required. Bring a pen, a notebook, and an open mind!
Short & Sweet: Two New Flash Fiction Drafts with Hannah Grieco
About This Workshop
This generative workshop will have you reading, brainstorming, and getting a start on two new short story drafts. We’ll focus on flash, keeping our wordcount under 1000 words and focusing on the art of precise, crisp storytelling. We’ll finish with some tangible editing tools to help you finish and polish your work!
Hannah Grieco is a writer in Washington, DC. Her debut short story collection “First Kicking, Then Not” is out now from Stanchion Books. She teaches writing at Marymount University, writes a literary column for Washington City Paper, and edits for a variety of small presses and literary magazines. Her work can be read in The Washington Post, Al Jazeera, Brevity, Craft, Wigleaf, Shenandoah, The Rumpus, The Offing, Poet Lore, Fairy Tale Review, Passages North, and more. Find her online at www.hgrieco.com and on Blue Sky and IG at @writesloud. (Author Photo by Gretchen Edwards)
