Join us on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 7 PM Eastern Time for a workshop with artist and writer Jonathan Tennis! Ticket sales for this workshop support Mission Belonging’s year-round free programming.
Writing the Image invites participants to explore the space where visual art and language intersect. Using erasure, photography, and poetry, we’ll experiment with uncovering hidden narratives and reshaping meaning through what we remove, reveal, and reimagine. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to see differently and create boldly.
Suggested supplies:
- photographs (physical or digital)
- any publication with lots of words that you don’t mind blocking out with permanent marker. Jonathan will be tearing out pages of books and writing over the words to create erasure.
Tickets for this special workshop are $25 per participant, and all sales support Mission Belonging’s year‑round free programming. We’re offering unlimited 50% discount codes for Veterans, Service Members, Military Families, Caregivers, and Healthcare Workers. Members of these groups should check their Direct Messages for the coupon code*.
This workshop will be recorded, and a link will be emailed to all ticket holders once the recording is available. The recording will include workshop lessons only; all other participant video will be edited for privacy. Only registered participants will have access to the recorded workshop.
*If you belong to one of these groups and did not receive the coupon code in your messages, please send a DM to Mission Belonging Support or email support@missionbelonging.org using the email address matching your member account so we can look into this.
About the Facilitator
Jonathan H. Tennis is a U.S. Army veteran and multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersection of memory, identity, and healing. Through photography and poetry, he examines the quiet aftermath of service—where silence speaks louder than sound and fragments of experience become stories of resilience. His work invites viewers to witness the unseen wounds and quiet strength carried by those who serve, revealing how art can bridge the distance between isolation and understanding.
