In October, Mission Belonging had the pleasure of connecting with SongwritingWith:Soldiers participants through two virtual songwriting workshops exploring both lyric writing and musical composition.

Led by Mission Belonging facilitators Kevin Basl and Wytold, participants explored storytelling, song structure, melody, rhythm, and the many ways personal experiences can take shape through song.

Songwriting offers us a unique way to share our experiences. A lyric, melody, or rhythm can become a means of expression and connection, creating space for our individual stories to be heard while bringing us together through the creative process.

SongwritingWith:Soldiers promotional graphic for The Power of Being Heard album. Text reads “The Power of Being Heard,” “Pre-Save the New Album,” “Available 11/6,” and “SongwritingWithSoldiers.org.” The album cover and orange SW:S guitar-pick logo appear on a dark green background.

That power of storytelling through song is also at the heart of The Power of Being Heard, the new album from SongwritingWith:Soldiers, releasing November 6. The album centers the stories, experiences, and voices of veterans and military families and the power of having space to be heard.

A heartfelt thank you to SongwritingWith:Soldiers and their Community Coordinator Kelsey Phillips for welcoming Mission Belonging and uniting our communities through the power of song, connection, and creativity.
